A novel from the Susan Seidelman film.
Image consultant Frankie Stone is hired by NASA to promote Ulysses, an android developed by Dr. Jeff Peters in his own image. Ulysses is to take an historic seven-year flight in space. But soon he becomes a little too human and attracts the attention of the press when he creates havoc at a shopping mall, causes a riot at a wedding, and is even initiated into sex by Frankie’s best friend. The TV coverage makes Ulysses a hot media star and Frankie finds herself increasingly drawn to the robot. When Ulysses confesses his love for Frankie, Dr. Jeff Peters trades places with his enamored creation and takes the lonely seven-year flight himself.
